		Anti-Predatory Lenders Workshop This is just a reminder that the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group (PCRG) and Northside Leadership Conference will be hosting the Anti- Predatory Lenders Workshop on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2008, 6:30 – 7:50, at THE PITTSBURGH PROJECT, Dining Hall, and 2801 North Charles Street, Pittsburgh PA. We are asking that each organization and Block Watch group send at least 2 people to represent your Block Watch or Organization to this meeting. The Honorable Senator Wayne D. Fontana will be speaking at the event along with the PCRG Experts. I don’t need to tell any of you just how serious this problem has become. So please come and hear the information Knowledge is Power. This may not apply to you but come and get the information and be able to help someone in your neighborhood. Last Friday (9-5-08) there was another break-in on Reynolds St. (between Linden & Dallas). It happened around 5pm. My friend was home at the time working upstairs when she heard a crash. She went downstairs and saw someone coming in the french doors at the back of her house (he had broken the glass in them to enter). She yelled at him to get out of the house then ran back upstairs and hit the “panic” button on her alarm system. She doesn’t think the guy knew she was home when he broke in and he took off after she yelled. The police arrived quickly - evidently a neighbor saw someone walking around behind the houses and had already put in a call…….This was the 2nd time their house has been broken into within the last year - the 1st time no one was home and a lot of electronics were stolen.

Light Up Night

This year’s Light Up Night is scheduled for Saturday, December 1st, from 6-9pm.

With the cancellation of the Bonfire, we are hoping to expand this year’s event. We’ve moved the event to a Saturday evening, we are holding earlier in the month (hoping for less frigid temperatures), and we are starting an hour earlier to accommodate the younger folks. We have some great ideas planned.

More details to come, but as always, WE NEED HELP now in planning, and on 12/1 working at the event.

Wrap Up : Redd Up South Point Breeze

The event was a great success. We had a tremendous turnout despite the less-than-perfect weather. We also collected an additional 31 names for our emailing list! Welcome to the new subscribers!

Here’s a note from our clean up leader, Hope Feldman (hoperealestate@yahoo.com):

Thank you so very much for coming out on a rainy, cold, day to clean up Point Breeze. We did a wonderful job. Our neighborhood looked great, even on a rainy day.

For those of you who came from outside our neighborhood we give special thanks. We really appreciated your contribution on our Redd Up Day.

Our next activities will be a ‘Day of Landscaping’ to continue our beautification of our neighborhood; a July 4th celebration, complete with a parade ( we invite all to decorate their bicycles and come on out) we will have food and games; our summer block party - date to be announce; and our fall clean up - Oct. 13th weekend.

Please let me know if you would like to get involved in any of the above. Also, please let me know about other ideas. We want to bring our community together.
