Bakery Row Community Meeting

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

What
A collective effort to shape the future of “Bakery Row” — Penn Avenue from East Liberty Commercial Core to Fifth Avenue (including Shadyside, East Liberty, and Point Breeze Communities). See the Bakery Row Meeting Flyer for more information, or read on below.

Where
Calvary Church (315 Shady Avenue at Walnut Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206)

When
Wednesday, October 4, 2006 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Who
Residents, Property Owners, Business People, Institutional Leaders and Developers that want to make this stretch of Penn Avenue great–again! (a.k.a. you!)

Why
Our neighborhoods are great and getting greater. This is a section where all of our neighborhoods meet. With a few exceptions it is also a place forever altered by the ill-fated Urban Renewal effort of the 60’s and 70’s. East Liberty is finally waking up from its 40 year nap, driven by a community-supported master plan. Residential districts of the Shadyside and Point Breeze neighborhoods are as vibrant as they have ever been.

This stretch of Penn Avenue, once East Liberty’s “Strip District” complete with Passenger rail and train station, freight yards and dominated by industrial bakeries is ripe for change.

What’s missing?
A community-supported plan that can provide a framework for growth and change that adds value to (and does not detract from) the future of our neighborhoods.

Please come, and bring your best ideas with you.

This effort is co-sponsored by East liberty Development, Inc. (ELDI) and Shadyside Action Coalition (SAC).
